22 posts · Joined 2011. #5 · Aug 2, 2016. My 2006 MK3 2.5 auto got the same problem. Two switches disconnected from the plugs ,the brake lamps still stay on when the key turned to position III . Take the fuse #93 (power source for brake lamps) off then the brake lamps went off. So I think the power feeding line is connected to the brake
If you are lucky, the problems will be solved by a gearbox fluid change (which costs around £300). If you are unlucky, the transmission will need to be replaced and this will be a very expensive job indeed that could run into the thousands.
